WHAT IS A MILL LEVY?

MILL LEVY

A MILL is 1/10 of $.01 or $.001 (one thousandth). A mill levy is the number of dollars a taxpayer must pay for every $1000 of assessed value.  The taxing entitiy determines the amount of dollars, based on its budget request to the County Commissioners.  The property in the previous example was for a property located within the city limits of Rock Springs.  In this example, the 70.000 mills may be broken down as follows:

Mill levies are listed on a seperate page on this web site, for more detail please refer to Mill Levies.  There are many entities that have taxing authority in Sweetwater County.  These entities annually submit for a levy from the Board of County Commissioners.  The requested mills are based on a proposed budget (projected revenues and expenditures) of the entity and what it needs in tax dollars to adequately fund the services it provides to its taxpayers.
