Sweetwater County’s
deputy sheriffs patrol and answer calls for service throughout
Sweetwater County’s 10,491 square miles 24 hours per
day, seven days per week. In addition, resident deputies serve
outlying communities like Wamsutter and Farson-Eden. Deputy
sheriffs are responsible for a broad range of tasks and duties,
including answering calls, traffic enforcement, investigating
crimes, serving papers, assisting stranded motorists, making
arrests, assisting in medical calls, protecting the public, and
maintaining order.
Court Security
Officers are fully-empowered deputy sheriffs with special
training and experience, providing security for the Sweetwater
County Courthouse in Green River, the
Sweetwater County Office Building in Rock
Springs, the District Court in Green River, and the
Circuit Courts in both Rock Springs and Green River. |

The agency’s Detectives and Investigative Assistant work
interactively with the Patrol Division in investigating and
preventing crime. Their duties include reviewing and advancing
initial investigations, processing crime scenes, interviewing
witnesses, victims, and suspects, collecting evidence, preparing
cases for prosecution, and apprehending fugitives. |

School continues for the juveniles housed at the Sweetwater County Detention Center. Under the teachers’ careful tutelage, the juveniles are able to continue with their school studies even while incarcerated; so when they are released they will be able to pick-up their studies in public school.

The Office Manager, Administrative Assistant, Records Manager,
Patrol Manager, Warrants Manager, and Civil Support Staff of the
Services Division provide vital support and administrative
services to the agency. |

Search and Rescue |

The dedicated volunteers of
Sweetwater County Search & Rescue have served
Sweetwater County
for over 45 years. Since 1963 they have rescued many
hundreds of people who have found themselves in trouble
in remote areas of
Sweetwater, the largest in the state. The unit works closely with
the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office, utilizing
effective communications systems, ongoing training and
techniques, map, compass, and GPS skills, and their
invaluable knowledge of the terrain to carry out their
missions. |

County Animal Control Officers patrol and answer calls for
services related to stray animals as well as investigating cases
involving abused, neglected, or dangerous animals, providing
protection to the animals as well as to the community. Animal
Control Attendants work closely with ACOs, feeding and caring
for impounded animals and maintaining shelter facilities.
The agency's Livestock Officer is a highly specialized deputy
whose duties include investigating complaints of livestock at
large on public highways and straying onto private property,
complaints, regarding neglect or abuse of livestock, assisting
law enforcement countywide in livestock matters, and providing
rural patrol of fixed and mobile livestock operations and camps. |

The Sheriff’s Office D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education)
Program provides education to students to prevent use of illegal
drugs, membership in gangs, alcohol and tobacco use, and violent
behavior. D.A.R.E. officers are certified peace officers who
undergo 80 hours of intense training and provide the means for
students to interact with law enforcement in positive, friendly,
and beneficial settings. |

The Sweetwater Bomb Squad is comprised of law enforcement
officers of the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office and theRock Springs and Green River Police
Departments. The Squad serves Sweetwater, Carbon County,Sublette County, (working in conjunction with
the Teton Bomb Squad, based in Jackson), the southern half of Lincoln County, and Uinta County.
The team has also answered calls for emergency service in Daggett County Utah. |
