Two veteran communications officers were named Communications Officers of the Year for 2009 at a special ceremony in Green River on Wednesday [April 14, 2010].
Communications Officer Robin Kizzire of the Green River Police Department and Communications Officer Tasha Urbatsch of the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office received their awards from Lieutenant Burke Morin, GRPD, and Lieutenant Rick Hawkins, SCSO.
Both women were recognized for their long-standing commitment, dedication, and professionalism.
Major Dennis Claman of the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office pointed in particular to Communications Officer Urbatsch’s recent handling of a shooting incident; Urbatsch, via cell phone, talked a shooting incident suspect in possession of two handguns into surrendering peacefully to officers.
“That’s the kind of cool thinking and professional skills those two COs exemplify,” said Claman. “They’re a credit to their agencies.”
The awards were made in conjunction with National Communications Officer Week, April 10-16
